June 9, 2010...Wachovia Center, Home of the Philadelphia Flyers...there was no red light, there were no cheers, just Blackhawks swarming the ice in celebration. Helmets and sticks thrown about, Patrick Kane jumping all around the ice and still...no signal for a goal. After a brief replay, the "disappearing puck" was found...IN THE GOAL! Philadelphia went silent. The Chicago Blackhawks had won the 2010 Stanley Cup on a superb goal by number 88, Patrick Kane (Hawks last Stanley Cup win, 1961). Chicago is Champion.
On June 11, 2010...the city of Chicago unites...over 1.5+ million people flood the streets of the Loop. Cheers, confetti, chanting, music blasting, dancing and screaming echo down avenues, lanes and streets of Sweet Home Chicago. The parade weaves its way through the Loop to Michigan and Wacker, where all Chicagoans join as one Blackhawk, and the music played, do...do, do-do...do, do-do...do, do-do, do-do, do-do...( "Chelsea Dagger" by the Fratelli's, Blackhawks Fight Song)
I was on the media bus, third in line with the player buses...it was a feeling you can't get from any substance or drug. Hundreds of thousands of people looking on to the players, on to the cameras, and cheering/shouting/yelling. People love to get their picture taken...snapping shot after shot, shooting angles of the excitement that can't even begin to convey the feeling that was flowing down my spine, let alone the players and, of course, the Blackhawk fans themselves. I have met many celebs in my life...been backstage, been on stage, been on TV, been on radio...BUT, this was, so far, the pinnacle moment in my life...next to finding a great women of course.
